Even with less than stellar surf conditions, the Whitney Marie Young Surf Contest in Torrance Beach turned out to be a blast, churning out dozens of competitors to show and compete for some seriously epic prizes on a beautiful day at the beach. From early teens to late 30’s, surfers of all ages came out to show they could still shred the smaller-than-hoped-for waves with some serious style. EPICOLOGY WRAPS UP THE US OPEN

After approximately 2,500 ranked waves during the US Open of Surf, Day 9 crowned the Huntington Beach local boy, Brett Simpson, Champion, as he took the gold…and $100,000 – the largest prize money ever to be offered for a surfing event. (more…)
