On January 12, 2010 the world watched in shock as Haiti endured a massive 7.0 earthquake that would turn many unfortunate Haitians lives upside down. Almost immediately the world’s true character was shown as aid was rushed to the Caribbean country from all corners of the world.
Not far behind the first news of this tragic event we received an urgent text from our friend Jeff at Baja Sharkeez in Hermosa Beach. Jeff, the coordinator of Sharkeez Fashion Industry Night, was asking for help from local fashion industry aficionados to assist in the relief efforts for the third world country by donating prizes for Monday nights Raffle.
After putting on our party pants we threw together an epic gift basket consisting of three shirts, two hats, two gift certificates, an autographed photo of professional bmx rider Scott Thompson and a few handfuls of stickers, and headed down to the Hermosa pier after meeting up with some friends from Olympus Snowboard Shop and Pennywise.
The pictures don’t lie, its obvious the party people of Hermosa enjoy nothing more than giving back to others and getting their fist pump on.
Our gift basket was one of many from local supporters including Sangria, Sunset Tan and many other local companies. Raffle tickets were sold for a chance to win prizes from the extensive list of giveaways. Scott Thompson made an appearance to pick the winning number for our gift basket and hand over the goods. The lucky numbers left one supporter ecstatic as he checked out his winnings.
The raffle raised almost $12,000 that was donated to the American Red Cross’ relief efforts in Haiti.
