Jamie Bestwick Shredding it at the X-Games BMX Vert
The Epicology Team got to be front and center for some incredible skill during the BMX vert finals. The riding level was insanely high and the airs these guys were throwin’ even higher. The Epic Battle between big names like CoCo Zurita, longtime veteran Dennic McCoy, Chad Kagy, Simon Tabron and of course Jamie Bestwick, gave the fans something to seriously drop jaws about.

Coco Zurita rode smooth and stylish, launching huge airs throwing double whips and flair to turndown variations but was just edged out of making the finals by Dennis McCoy. Fifteen years ago, McCoy threw a 900 at the first ever X-Games, and yet again, threw one this year - along with super smooth 540’s and high table tops - now at the ripe age of 42.
Jimmy Walker threw huge 540 variations but the bombs that the top 3 were dropping kept shut him out of stealing their spots. Chad Kagy had a few crashes on 2 double flair attempts but walked away safe. However, his flip whip to opposite flip whip huge super man seat grabs, bar spin to tail whip and multiple 540 combinations was enough for him to pull a solid third. Simon Tabron spun a never-before-done-in-competition one-hand one-foot 900 after just spinning a 900 – smooth as butter. And with the help of other 540 combinations it was good for landing second place.

Jamie Bestwick won his 3rd Gold in a row and showed everyone in crowd that he came to win. Two of his runs scored 49s out of 50 – his 3rd he crashed but by that point the gold was clearly his. He threw airs that X-GAMES officials had to notify the FAA about, and with 540 variations that no one else can duplicate, the day was certainly his. In the words of Simon Tabron “they were all competing for second place”.
