After approximately 2,500 ranked waves during the US Open of Surf, Day 9 crowned the Huntington Beach local boy, Brett Simpson, Champion, as he took the gold…and $100,000 – the largest prize money ever to be offered for a surfing event.
The final battle between 1st and 2nd and a difference of $90,000 came down between the hometown favorite Brett Simpson, and Aussie Mick Fanning.

The waves from the SW swell managed to barely hold on throughout the 2nd half of Sunday, giving the crowd a pretty epic show of skill from both riders. In the end though, Simpson pulled through and the crowd of 10’s of thousands went wild.
The Epicology team was down in full force that day pumping the stickers left and right while taking some seriously epic shots of the riders shredding the waves left and right. The gnarly SW swell did enough to keep people entertained and cameras snapping.

All in all, Epicology had a sick time at the US Open. We spread the love, we took some great photos, and overall, just totally enjoyed being emersed in the culture of surf all day at the beach. You really can’t beat that.
